Lázaro Gutiérrez is a Cuban-born poet. He grew up in the small town of Esmeralda, Camagüey, Cuba where his father was a rice farmer and his mother worked as a transportation manager. His family immigrated to the U. S. when he was eight years old in search of new opportunities. Lázaro has been writing stories and poetry since he was a young boy. He attended Belmont Abbey College in Belmont, NC where he studied Educational Studies and minored in English. During his time in college he served as a a staff member of The Crusader, Belmont Abbey’s newspaper, and he contributed to Belmont Abbey’s literary magazine Agora! He graduated as the Outstanding Educational Studies graduate and received honors from Sigma Tau Delta, the International English Honor Society as well as Kappa Delta Pi, the National Education Honor Society.
Lázaro’s work tells the stories of his own life experiences, his love for nature, the immigration experience in America, as well as fatherhood, love, and the human condition. His work has appeared or is forthcoming in Agora!, Wingless Dreamer, Of Earth & Sky, You Might Need To Hear This, Hey Young Writer, Tint Journal, Snapdragon: A Journal of Art & Healing, Vermilion, The Gobstich Penn, and Papers Publishing.
